Black Veil Brides video analysis

The first scene that is shown in this music video is a torn up flag saying "BRING THE WAR". This sounds rebellious and this is a characteristic of a rock or metal music video.
The band
The first time the audience sees the band, you can automatically notice the fog and fire. The fire may be linked to the title of this music video 'Heart of Fire'.
The fog makes a good aspect of this video because the light reflects off of it and it gives the video a grunge feel. These factors of this music video demonstrates the genre characteristics also because of the stage performance, typically shown in in rock videos.

The use of fire can be seen throughout the entire music video. This shows a relationship between the music and the lyrics because as the words 'Heart of Fire' are sung, the fire in the scene flares up, this is an example of an amplifying relationship between the lyrics and visuals.

Along with the fire, the audience can see the rubble and dirt in front of the clean stage where the band is performing. This shows the grunge characteristics of this video, and it gives the music video a rock/ alternative vibe.

The band
The fire also helps bring out the props on the stage. It emphasises the guitars that Jake, Ashley, and Jinxx are using, and further emphasises the BVB rosary at the back, which is also lit on fire.
In a lot of scenes, the camera cuts on beat to the fire raging up, which is amplifying.

Andy

The clothes that the band wear shows an illustrative view of the artist because this is how they usually appear when attending gigs or meeting fans.
Ashley
The leather, fishnet, gloves, studs, and metal necklaces all represent the rock, metal or alternative genre of music. The light behind the members also helps emphasise these clothes and connotes a much stronger relationship with their clothes and the music that they're representing.

Andy
Swearing in rock music videos is very common, whether it is verbal or visual (however it is very rare for this particular band).
This then emphasises the rebellious characteristics of the music genre because mainstream music either avoids swearing, or bleeps/blocks it out in their music videos.

These poses from various members of the band are typical guitar poses from rock bands. These include the leaning back and holding up the guitar during a riff, and the leaning back onto the back of another member during a guitar riff. These are famous rock guitar moves and further emphasises the genre of the music.

The use of location for this video connotes a strong grunge genre. Characteristics of grunge is dirt, run down areas, barbed wire and/or fencing, and graffiti, which this video has all 3. This is a good characteristic to use in rock videos to connote the roughness of the music and it used very frequently.

Several angles used in this music video are slanted. This gives a disorientating vibe to the scene because it the camera isn't lined up to what your normal field of view would be like. This is a good characteristic for rock videos because it isn't a normal convention used in mainstream videos.

Another characteristic shown by the members (Jake and Jinxx) is the hair over the face while head banging to their guitar riffs. This is a very popular motion in rock videos, and is automatically recognised as a characteristic from heavier music videos.
